2011 CS Irwin COSMIC Rando Race

The first race of the Colorado Ski Mountaineer Cup season is in the books.  And what a race!  Different from last year being a full on powder day with a January like snowpack and 2 feet of fresh powder, this time the athletes were greeted by thin conditions and October like weather.  But, as race organizer said, “it’s a ski mountaineering race” and part of the attraction is dealing with conditions presented to you.  Safety and preparedness are the emphasis.  But tell that to the top end of the field.  The seasons leading up to now have initiated a strong and elite field of men and women racers that all know how to go fast, take chances and have fun!  Please visit the COSMIC sites to read more and look at results.

Macro Ice

When I pulled a hunk of ice out of my cooler in order to prep for our annual White Rim Tour I found this.  Worked out perfect for my Macro assignment in Alan Ivy’s photography class.

Earthship Abstract

After a brief visit with my friend Jonah in Taos, New Mexico I left without having shot my “Abstract” assignment photos for Alan Ivy’s class yet.  Not more than a half an hour into the drive home I found my subject; the visitor’s center at the Earthship enclave along NM Hwy 64.  I wish I had time to look around more but I was under the gun for time.  I ran around and shot these hand held images but only scratched the surface of the Earthship structure and infrastructure let alone photography.  Great place.
