2011 CS Irwin COSMIC Rando Race
The first race of the Colorado Ski Mountaineer Cup season is in the books. And what a race! Different from last year being a full on powder day with a January like snowpack and 2 feet of fresh powder, this time the athletes were greeted by thin conditions and October like weather. But, as race organizer said, “it’s a ski mountaineering race” and part of the attraction is dealing with conditions presented to you. Safety and preparedness are the emphasis. But tell that to the top end of the field. The seasons leading up to now have initiated a strong and elite field of men and women racers that all know how to go fast, take chances and have fun!
